OPAC (optical power attached cable) is a type of fiber optic cable that is installed by attaching to a host conductor along overhead power lines. Optical fibers or fiber cables can be used for transmitting optical power from a source to some application. For monitoring and managing networks, they use a variety of means of communications, including running fiber optic cables along the transmission and distribution towers, radio links and contracting landline and cellular communications services from telecom carriers. This enables the connection of any number of powered remote devices without the need for new conduit, bulky extra cable runs or expensive.
